This book is brutal. Like, seriously brutal. If you're squeamish about graphic violence, this probably isn't for you. But if you can handle the gore, it's a thrilling and unique fantasy world. The magic system is fascinating, and the characters are complex and memorable. I was completely hooked on this series from the start.
While I'm giving it 4 stars overall (other books in the series received 5 stars from me), I felt the ending was a bit rushed. I was particularly disappointed with the lack of involvement from both Abban and the Painted Children. Throughout the series, there was a significant buildup around both, including a dedicated rescue mission for Aban. However, neither played a significant role in the final book, which felt like a missed opportunity
